She lives in Montreal. As a visual artist I create installations and stop-animations involving recontextualized commonplace objects and narratives, which work to defamiliarize the familiar, or, at the very least, bring familiar structures into question. My intention is to confound the ordinary to make it ambiguous, which by extension also makes us ambiguous. It is through this ambiguity that our imaginations are provoked. Suddenly we can see what was there all along and recognize our potential to think about what else it might be. My poetry is primarily engaged with how people use science as metaphor to understand or explain their lives, and how these metaphors then work to reinforce and/or undermine beliefs. This, in some ways, is an attempt to expose our own unreliabilities, as well as the fallibility of science; especially when theories can change from being true to untrue over time. |
